This article will give an overview of the different provincial overtime guidelines, and how they work in Collage's time-tracking module.
When creating a time-tracking policy in Collage, you'll be asked to specify overtime rules. Collage offers a Standard option which determines overtime rules based on the employee's province of residence.
The provincial overtime rules are detailed in the table below. Note that these do not apply to federally-regulated employees, who are governed under separate federal overtime rules. These rules will also not apply if an employee does not live in Canada.
Province/Territory | Overtime |
Alberta | Weekly overtime: 44 hours Daily overtime: 8 hours |
British Columbia | Weekly overtime: 40 hours Daily overtime: 8 hours Daily double overtime: 12 hours |
Manitoba | Weekly overtime: 40 hours Daily overtime: 8 hours |

Employees who work more than the respective weekly, daily, and daily double overtime threshold in their province will, in most cases, be entitled to overtime pay per provincial employment regulations.
Exceptions may apply for employees who work on holidays, or are part of an averaging agreement, or whose work exempts them from overtime.
